Guided Silent Retreat on Emptiness
1-4 Nov · Land’s Edge · Chowder Bay
A Very Meaningful Weekend
Deepen your understanding of emptiness by immersing yourself in this special silent guided retreat. Contemplate and meditate on Buddha’s profound and liberating teachings on emptiness, the way things really are.
By observing silence, we have the opportunity to turn our attention inwards and focus on our meditation practice. Gen Kelsang Lhachog, the Resident Teacher at KMC Sydney will reveal how we can attain deep absorption in meditation and enjoy an experience of true mental freedom.
“In Buddhism, emptiness has great meaning. It is the real nature of things, and is a very profound and meaningful object. If we realise emptiness directly we will attain permanent liberation from all the sufferings of this life and countless future lives; there is no greater meaning than this.”
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
Starting with dinner followed by an Introductory Talk on Friday evening, the retreat will incorporate teachings, guided meditations and chanted prayers. There will be plenty of breaks to enjoy the beauty of the location, an oasis of tranquility on Sydney Harbour. The retreat concludes after lunch on Monday, with an option to depart on Sunday evening. Meals will be delicious vegetarian meals with gluten-free and vegan options available.
Venue & Accommodation
The retreat is held at Land’s Edge, Building 1, Chowder Bay Rd, Chowder Bay next to Sydney Harbour National Park in Mosman. Set in natural bushland by Sydney Harbour, there are several signposted walks along the nearby beaches and bushland foreshores to enjoy in the breaks.
A variety of on-site accommodation options are available including single, twin, triple, and dormitory rooms. There is also an off-site option for those who do not wish to stay on-site.
Preparing for Retreat
Everyone is welcome to participate in this retreat, regardless of experience. For those wishing to prepare for retreat, our weekly drop-in classes on Living Lightly held throughout Sydney from mid September will explore emptiness, providing a helpful introduction to the topic.
Gen Kelsang Lhachog, the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Centre Sydney will guide the Retreat. Lhachog is an inspiring example of modern Buddhism in practice. She presents Buddha’s teachings with beautiful clarity, warmth and sincerity, skilfully guiding people from all walks of life to find inner peace and lasting happiness.
