About the Foundation Program

The Foundation Program provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddhism through a systematic study of six texts:

Joyful Path of Good FortuneUniversal CompassionThe New Eight Steps to HappinessThe New Heart of WisdomMeaningful to BeholdHow to Understand the Mind

The Foundation Program is an enrolled program where we make a commitment to attend each class within a study section and we maintain our Centre Membership for the whole duration of our study commitment.

We offer a free trial of Foundation Program so you can try a class before you make a commitment. Please click “Enquire Now” to request a trial.

The benefits of studying our current book - Joyful Path of Good Fortune

  • We gain the ability to put all of Buddha’s teachings of Sutra and Tantra into practice

  • We can easily make progress on, and complete, the stages of the path to the supreme happiness of enlightenment – Lamrim

  • Become a part of our spiritual community, connect with other practitioners and feel supported in your practice

  • Gain personal experience of the essential teachings of Kadampa Buddhism and make genuine progress on the path to liberation and enlightenment

Class Format

Starting at 4:30pm and finishing at 8:30pm on most Sundays, Foundation Program is held over two sessions with a short dinner break in the middle.

Each session starts and concludes with chanted prayers (currently – Essence of Good Fortune), includes recitation of the Condensed Meaning of the Text, a teaching and time for paired discussion.

Periodically (approximately every 6th class) we engage in a discussion class lead by two students on rotation. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and clarify our understanding of the section before we move on.

At the end of each study commitment we sit a test to help us gauge our understanding and progress.

You will need a copy of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s book, Joyful Path of Good Fortune. This can be purchased from the book shop at our centre or from Tharpa Publications Australia.

The Teacher

Gen Kelsang Lhachog, the Resident Teacher at KMC Sydney teaches Foundation Program. With 25 years’ experience in meditation, Gen Lhachog explains Buddha’s teachings with sincerity and kindness, in a way that is clear and easy to apply to our daily life.
